The Third Week at School Has Passed
Overall, this week was very good.
Dear Reader,
Overall, this week was very good. It started off tired, as the previous weekend's activities had left their mark.
On Monday evening I was able to attend a Quiz Night. It was the last night of the Spanish team last week. It was an evening full of exciting questions and puzzles. It was great to put all your creativity and skills into it. The Spanish youngsters were good heads (although the desire to cheat was not sympathetic).
From a learning point of view, I managed to learn a lot of new things again. We made a lot of progress in the curriculum. One of our goals for the week was to have a final test on Thursday of the month. The test consisted of reading, writing and grammar/vocabulary. After getting the results on Friday, I couldn't complain. I did well with about 80%. Unfortunately, I also looked at things, so I was not happy.
On Friday after school I went shopping at the nearby mall. I had two reasons for shopping. One was to cook a traditional Hungarian meal for the house on Saturday. The other was to bring home some sweets and tea. Pláza as a complex was not filled with the usual small shops in Hungary, but a huge complex. Most of the shops and restaurants are in a two-storey complex. Each shop has its own entrance from the shopping street. The Tesco itself is at least 2 times the size of the Tesco on Vác Street. What I really liked most about the whole thing was the spaciousness, even when there were a lot of people, there was enough room for everyone and we weren't trampling on each other. Another highlight was perhaps that there was a wide range of shops on offer from pet shops to clothes shops to bike and sports shops. I walked 3 kilometres there and back, it was a bit harder on the way back with the luggage, but it was worth it, especially because of the good weather. I looked to see if there was a bus there, but as the bus goes the roundabout way it would have been about the same time.
In the evening we went out for drinks in a bar. It was nice to get to know the atmosphere of the bars here. The bartenders were very nice. Perhaps the most interesting point of the evening was how much our fellow students from Korea and Thailand can't hold their liquor. With our German classmates, we kept the European standard. Oh, and the draught Fosters was delicious (for those who don't know, it's an Australian camp beer). I'm a bit sorry I haven't seen it on tap in Hungary for a long time.
Overall this week was much better than the last. I'm actually starting to feel like another month wouldn't hurt, but it would be useful, but I'm not giving up. I will continue at home. Although there's still a week to go, it's not going to change the world. Next week I'll only have classes in the morning, and in the afternoon we'll do some sightseeing and talk a lot. As Monday is Bank Holiday, I will be spending the day in London.
