Resting Up for the First Day of School
I had a great start to the day as I managed to get a good night's sleep.
Dear Reader,
I had a great start to the day as I managed to get a good night's sleep. I dare say I haven't slept this well in a long time.
Walking to school this morning, I made a short video showing what a typical street looks like. Link
Before I got to school, I got a coffee, and for once I didn't choose the usual espresso, but a vanilla latte. I asked a nice gentleman at school if he knew of such a programme, as it turned out he didn't either. So I ended up walking around the city on my own.
I still think it is a beautiful city. There are narrow streets and winding ones, but simply, it's great. The buildings themselves have an atmosphere, or I don't know how to put it into words. It's a bit like they tell a story.
Walking around town I noticed a monument. I had the feeling I'd seen one before.

There is a small park behind the monument and I sat down and thought about something. Although the blog is about England, I had a thought and would like to do a little digression. It's strange to me that there are WW1 and WW2 memorials in the city here (not nearly as many as in Hungary, though). I don't quite understand why, if the world suffered so much during and after the world war and its aftermath, why people didn't learn from it. After all, it was a great lesson, with much sacrifice and much loss. So much was destroyed in the aftermath of the war. People had to rebuild everything. Almost 100 years after the Second World War, generations have grown up and it is as if they have forgotten what happened. We have got used to the good, the comfortable and we don't want to give it up. We do not pay attention to the values of the land and we do not respect our fellow human beings. It is a sad situation. I sincerely hope that it is not another world war that will wake people up and bring them to their senses. It is important to appreciate what we have and, if we can, to help those who need it. Every day a small good deed and the world will be a better place.
It was good to get that out, but now back to my day. After sitting in the park, I went on to explore the city.
I made a little mood video after arriving at city celebration: link It's a bit like Hungary, only here people are happier and enjoy being outside. Not only were there a lot of people and children, but also dogs. It was interesting to me how socialized the dogs were. There are breeds that don't tolerate other dogs, that was there here too, the difference was that here they listened to their owners.
During the celebration I watched a show. I think it was a folk performance. I also made a video of it for interest.
After the lecture I went to a Tesco and a drugstore, I needed one or two things I didn't want to burden my suitcase with. It was strange to me that almost everything was cheaper than in Hungary (at least the toiletries for sure). I might not have written this, here they don't print out the receipt automatically when you buy something, only if you ask for it. I wish this would become common in Hungary, but the best thing would be to have some kind of NFC chip that you can swipe to digitally send the receipt if you want it.
I came back to the house where I was staying. I got some sleep because it felt good. This month should be about me and I need to watch for signs. After sleep I read, then a nice sunshine lured me out. Went for a run on the beach. Yes, another dream come true. Two years ago when I was in Barcelona with my brothers, I got the urge to live there and run on the beach as much as possible (I have to admit that what I saw there motivated me). When I was writing down what I wanted to bring with me to England, running stuff was on the list because I knew I wanted to complete this bucket list item. True, it's not Barcelona, but it's a beach. I'll put the distance in here as a point of interest, but I wouldn't call myself a sport runner, I'm more of an amateur enthusiast.
Tomorrow is finally school.
Finally, some pictures from today: LINK
